Randall Boys Win Championship

The Randall boy’s basketball team has played Salem four times this season.

  • Game 1 = Salem wins by 14 points
  • Game 2 = Salem wins by 22 points
  • Game 3 = Randall wins by 30 points

“I told the boys, ‘It’s not going to be a 20-point blowout, either way.‘” said Randall coach Mike Perry. “Not in the championship game. It is going to be a dog-fight.”

Coach Perry was right. It was a dog-fight. And his Randall Wildcats pulled out a 42-40 win over Salem in the 2020 Westosha Athletic Conference championship game on Tuesday night.

Randall’s Johnny Weber led all scorers with 17 points. James Kiraly led Randall in steals. Jeffrey Bruton led Randall in assists.

Coach Perry was quick to praise the post-work of Kade Frisby and Colin Hart. “[Salem] went box-and-one on [Johnny Weber]….. so I told [Weber] to go out by half-court, which brings their best defender and rebounder out to half-court, and I told my two post players, ‘This is on you. You are going to win this game,'” said Perry. “Colin and Kade really stepped up.”

When asked what makes Salem such a tough match-up Perry said, “They are the best outside shooting team in the league. They shoot more 3’s, and they make more 3’s, than anybody. Last night they were on fire.”

Assistant coach, and county legend, Tim ‘Papa’ Stewart added, “Number one (Salem’s Carson Schultz) had three people collapse on him: Johnny, Kade, and James. And he just jumped out to the middle from about 22 feet (NBA distance). He went up between 3 defenders and just drained it.”

Congrats to Coach Perry and the Randall Wildcats.
