Falcons Fly Past Milton to Sectional Final
Sectional Final at Watertown Saturday 1pm
The Central basketball beat Milton 72-52 in the WIAA sectional semifinal at Wilmot high school on Thursday night.
The Falcons went into halftime trailing the Hawks 20-23 in front of a loud and rowdy crowd. They were running great plays, luring in Milton defenders, then dishing off to open teammates for short jumpers and layups, but the shots just wouldn’t fall.
So the plan at halftime was, “just sticking to what we were doing“, said Jack Rose. Just two minutes into the second half he put his team up 27-25, and the Falcons would never trail again, as Rose scored 13 of Central’s 15 points over the next 4 minutes. Central drained six consecutive 3-pointers (Rose, Garth, Griffin, Rose, Griffin, Griffin) to advance the lead to 55-42 with five minutes remaining. The Falcon fans were rocking, while the Hawk fans were stunned and silenced. A Kenny Garth breakaway dunk put the Central up 62-44, and standout running back Jakob Simmons scored the final points on a nice dish from 6’7 freshman Liam Lubkeman.
The Falcons advance to the WIAA sectional final (at Watertown HS) to take on 23-4 Oregon at 1pm Saturday.
The Falcons will play Oregon Saturday afternoon at 1pm at Watertown high school.
