Wischnowski, Wilmot Keep Falcons Grounded

Wilmot senior, Anna Wischnowski, threw back-to-back shutouts vs Central last week. On Monday she threw a 1-hitter in a 16-0 win, and then Wednesday she pitched a 3-hitter in a 9-0 victory.

Central coach Tom Lampe praised the pitching of the Wilmot senior, “I found out that Anna Wischnowski is the real deal. She’s really good. And that’s as simple as that. If you can do that, and get a run or two, it puts a lot of pressure on the other team to respond…… The first game, we couldn’t touch her. In this one we made her work a lot more. In the first game, she had 8 balls the entire game, everything else was a strike. I thought we did a better job. They’re better than us right now, and I’ll be the first to admit that they’re better than us right now.”

Wischnowski had 9 strikeouts on Monday, and 8 strikeouts on Wednesday. Junior catcher, Sophia Schmidt, launched a grand-slam on Monday, then went 4-for-4 on Wednesday with 3 RBIs. Jessica Dorobek homered for the Panthers on Wednesday.

When asked what she learned in the two games vs Central, after 3 tough losses to start the season, Wilmot coach Jennifer Jacobson said, “Was them being resilient. It’s really hard to start a season down. We were 0-and-3, not hitting well, our average as a team was pretty low. Our pitcher is pitching well, but we can’t help her out. It’s a mental thing, and I knew that. So keep talking to them. Get their mental toughness back on track. The captains (Anna and Hailie Morton) have been so good with them as well. Being supportive. Being positive. It sounds so cliche’, but that’s what gets people back out of a hole, and playing as a team. They never gave up on each other. And that always makes me really proud, when I see a group of girls that, we can be down, but they’re still going to have each other’s back. And I see that with this group. We have great things to come our way. It’s unfortunate that we lost those two to Burlington, but sometimes you have to take a couple tough, hard losses to kind of get better, and rebound, and re-group, and re-build yourself as a team. I couldn’t be more proud of all these girls, every single one of them.”
