Reynolds and Rynberg Too Much for Elkhorn

Lady Falcons notch 11th win

Reece Rynberg (#31) played tenacious defense on one of the most dominant players in the conference, and Ellie Reynolds (#13) drained clutch shots in the second half as the Lady Falcons beat Elkhorn 46-44 on Tuesday night.

The teams battled tight in the first half, and went to halftime with a score of 24-21, Falcons.

However, early in the second half, Elkhorn found what looked to be an unstoppable play, dropping the ball to 6’4″ Dillyn Ivey in the post, where she she would just finger-roll a lay-up that no Falcon could contest. Ivey scored six straight points, and the Falcons now trailed 31-26.

Falcon head coach Brian Garoutte said, “We have been down 5 or 6 before, and haven’t panicked, and have done a nice job of coming back. I had full confidence that we could do it. I knew that if we continued to press them, that that would cause them problems, and I think that was one of the bigger reasons we ended upcoming out on top, is because of the press that we put on.”

Rynberg would score the next jumper, and the Lady Falcons would go on a 12-0 run, that included several forced turnovers, and three 3-pointers by Ellie Reynolds. And suddenly the Lady Falcons were back on top 38-31.

On Reynolds making big shots in the second half, Garoutte said, “Any given night she (Reynolds) has that ability. And for as good as she’s played this year, there’s still more in her. There’s still a whole other level that she can get to. We just got to keep pushing her, and she’ll get there. And she’ll be even better than she is right now.”

On the team winning 11 games, Garoutte said, “These girls have taken everything I’ve given them. They have worked their butts off all season long. And I can’t complain with anything they’ve done. And this is just the start. We have a lot coming back next year, and my expectations are going to be even higher next year.

Ellie Reynolds on what she saw in the second half — “I just seen a lot of teamwork and good ball movement. And good ball movement gets people open. So, when I was open, I shot the ball, and it went in.”

Reynolds on the Falcons shutting down 6’4″ Dillyn Ivey, “Rynberg did a really good job. I know she fouled out, and she did her best.
