Kenosha Komets Update 7/30

The Kenosha Komets hockey organization has sent out an update on the current sports restrictions in Illinois. The Komets play in the Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association (WAHA), whereas the RecPlex hockey teams are based out of Gurnee, IL, and not part of WAHA.

My advice, if your kid wants to play travel hockey games this year = Register for the Komets TODAY. (7/31)

Here is the statement from the Komets:

Kenosha Komets Hockey

Good evening hockey families. I know there is a lot going on in the world of youth sports today so I wanted to take a moment to update you on Komets 20-21.

Today the governor of Illinois placed restrictions on all youth sports including hockey. Hockey teams in Illinois are permitted to hold non contact practices only. No house scrimmages, no league play. While there has been no official word, we fully expect the NIHL (Illinois) season to be postponed indefinitely. Fortunately, the Komets skate for WAHA. Our current plan is to play a full WAHA schedule like we did years ago. This will include our normal games against our divisional opponents, then filling in games with regional teams. I am very excited to re-ignite some old rivalries with teams from SHAW, Arrowhead, Waukesha and beyond!

WAHA play begins around November first. You should expect weekends full of hockey like you’re accustomed to right up to WAHA playdowns. In the meantime, we’ll be in constant communication with NIHL to be ready if the season begins…

Fees go up by $500 on August 1. With our lower early bird fees currently in effect, it hasn’t been this inexpensive to skate for the Komets in several years.

Tune-ups will be scheduled to take place before Labor Day with Try-outs taking place just after Labor Day…

I’m looking forward to seeing you at the rink!

These restrictions can change at any time. We will post updates as they become available.

Trevor’s Kevin Keating (#17) scores a big goal for the Kenosha Komets.
