Salem Boys Champs at Winter Blast

The Salem School (8th grade) boys basketball team won the 14-team Winter Blast Tournament at Wheatland School on Saturday.

Led by Mason Mitacek‘s 13 points and 9 rebounds, Salem erased an 8-point 4th quarter deficit against Antioch in the championship game, and came back to win 35-34.

Carson Schultz drained a clutch, go-ahead 3-pointer late in the 4th quarter. Then (Mitacek’s Super Bowl co-star), Collin Meininger hit the game-winning shot in the final minute to seal the comeback, and give Salem the tournament championship. (He also scored the game winning touchdown in the 2019 SEYFA Super Bowl in Oct.) Meininger finished the game with 9 points and 5 rebounds. Seventh graders Nicky Viirre and Kolton Lequesne chipped in with 8 and 4 points respectively.

FLASHBACK less than 8 weeks ago = With his team trailing 12-8 very late in the SEYFA Super Bowl, Collin Meininger (#18) powers in for the game winning touchdown. His team won the championship 16-12.
