Konwent “Excited” And On A Tear To Start Season

She just hit another HR (vs. Pitt) as I started writing this article.

Central grad Kayla Konwent is back playing for the Wisconsin Badgers after having surgery on her right shoulder, and she is “super excited” about the opportunity.

After the Scrapyard Tournament in Houston, Texas, Konwent is batting .500 after going 8-for-16, with 2 HRs, 7 RBI, 4 runs, and a triple, that actually landed on the top of the outfield fence, bounced straight up, and came back down in the field of play.

The team is off to a 4-1 start, and flew into Raleigh, NC, yesterday, for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Konwent has already homered today, as I started writing this story, so she is up to three total now.

The County 94 spoke to Konwent by phone before her team flight down to Raleigh, NC. When asked if she was nervous about the shoulder while heading down to the Scrapyard Tournament, she said, “Coming back to school from (winter) break, I was a tiny-bit nervous. But I didn’t have any doubts, or anything like that while traveling to Texas, or even at Texas. I think I was just too excited to be back playing. And not just hitting, but actually playing the field too.  I was dialed in, and super focused on the game, that I don’t even think I could have put my thoughts on something else“

Konwent really likes the way the young Badgers are coming together heading into the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. “I think, the fact that we did so much hitting (in Houston), collectively, was definitely great for our girls.. Especially because we had just faced our pitchers. And I think we can carry that momentum into this weekend.”

Look for big things from Konwent, and this young Badger team, in 2019. Batting .500 with 7 RBI in 5 games is a great start.
