Dodd Wins Wilmot Opener
Trevor’s Chris Dodd (#01) won the first race of the season at Wilmot Raceway. The 2019 IRA WingLess points champion went from 7th to 1st place in his heat race, then placed 3rd in the feature after starting in the 8th position.
Defending 2019 bandit champ, Ryan Johnson (#38), of Salem, had a roller coaster of a night. He started his heat race in the back of the pack. He worked his way up to the lead. Then his tire snapped completely off the axle as he was receiving the white flag. He had to get towed back to his pit stall, and took a DNF. He then jumped in his street car, and raced down to Fox Lake for parts at 7:45pm. The crew then hurried back up to Wisconsin, and had to install the new parts on the race car before the start of the Bandit B-Main. The pit crew got the job done in the nick of time. Johnson started 11th, out of 11 cars, then charged to the front and won the B-Main, which qualified him for the feature race. Johnson had to start all the way back in 17th place (of 20). He worked way up through the pack and finished 4th place in the feature. That #38 team made an amazing batch of lemonade on Saturday night.
This Saturday (6/13) the big-guns come to town, with the IRA Outlaw Sprints headlining the open-wheel spectacular. It will be the big ticket in town.
